How Much Of The Ocean Is Fish Pee? [Answered!]

Sharing is Caring

It’s an age-old question: how much of the ocean is fish pee?

While pee might not seem like an essential component to have in abundance, it is most certainly an ingredient that goes into making various delicious dishes. Whether you’re feasting on French fries or BBQ, if it’s been washed down with a few bottles of beer, you’re bound to end up with a full tummy and a nice empty bladder just begging to be emptied. So it’s safe to assume that there are plenty of fish in the ocean whose pee we all want to ingest.

The Importance Of Recycling

Most people are aware of the environmental impact that their pee has. After all, the environment around them is impacted whether they have a glass of wine or a few beers with dinner.

Just like the water they drink, the food they eat, and the air they breathe, the environment is slowly being poisoned by our collective pee. When urine is released into the environment, it takes a while for nature to process it and return it back to us as healthy organic matter. That’s approximately 25 years for a typical human being. So if you’re going to take a leak anyway, why not do it in the toilet where it can’t be wasted? Especially if you’re aiming for a more sustainable lifestyle. Recycle!

The Size Of The Fish Pee Community

Let’s face facts: we live in a finite world. There are only so many fish in the ocean and only so much space to grow food in terrestrial environments. So eventually, someone is going to run out of pee. It might not be today or tomorrow, but it’s going to happen.

When that day comes, the question becomes: how much pee do I need to survive? For a typical human being, that’s between two and three liters per day. For a more sustainable human being, that might only be 500 milliliters per day. A third of a cup. A small sip for each meal. Not enough to cause any harm, but certainly enough to recognize it when you’ve had too much. Enough to know that you’ve spent more money than you ought to on a single meal.

Now it’s your turn. How much of the ocean’s water do you think is fish pee? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
